My name is Ronen Cohen. I am originally from Israel, although I left in 1999. I started as a backpacker, and soon discovered the amazing world of the ex-pat: Working and living abroad. I pursued a BA in Education from the University of Iowa, and in 2011 I received my K-12 Talented and Gifted Specialist Endorsement. Since then, I decided to focus my education on my passion for technology, and have graduated with a Master’s Degree in Educational Technology from Boise State University. I am now working on smaller scale certifications- Google Certified Educator and a Tech Coach certification from ISTE.
Together with my wife Lia (and later on my son Jivan) we lived and taught in Taiwan, Thailand, the US, Ghana, India, and now we are in our second year in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
I love our lifestyle and it has already paid in so many ways- My perspective on the world and world issues has expanded, I matured as a teacher, and my son is growing to be a wonderfully open-minded and happy teenager (yes… “happy” and “teenager” in the same sentence…).
I currently do not see our family permanently settling down anywhere. The world is far too big and interesting, and there are many more cultures and people to get to know.
When the time and place to settle down arrives, we will definitely take the steps to make it a reality. But until that time comes, we will continue to explore new and old territories, and to expand our family’s perspective of amazingly unique and beautiful cultures.
